Feedback

The Pri 2 English teacher brought her class to the school's garden yesterday, and naturally, the pupils were excited and about this, and were very chatty, and went about touching everything. So she had to remind them not to pluck any leaves or flowers, etc as we should take care of the plants around us.

Today, she continued with the topic, and introduced the various gardening tools that can be used in the garden, constantly encouraging the pupils for answers with appropriate feedback given, eg. praises when the answer was right, and encouragement and praise for the willingness to try when the answer was incorrect.

I noticed that this was also the case across all the classes that I observed, to encourage the pupils to participate and not scold or discourage them from answering wrongly. This provides the pupils with confidence so that they will try again in future, and they, especially those soft-spoken ones, will participate more again.

This is something that I need to take note of, well, not that I scold anyone, but to use feedback appropriately and to try to use positive feedback instead of negative ones, as the pupils are still at a tender age, and should they be 'scarred' for life due to negative feedback given by a teacher, they will end up to be anti-social ad unwilling to participate in class. This is something that all teachers, should take note of.
