My Attempts at Teaching

Had my first attempts at teaching Primary school pupils yesterday (Pri 2s) and today (Pri 4s).

I guess both attempts went ok, the pupils were quite receptive, though I need to keep the pupils' level of ability in mind when planning my lesson.

For example, it's not good to feed too much information to pupils who are of lower ability, as they would tend not to be able to follow your lesson and get bored easily. So we could try to tailor the lesson accordingly, for example, by having more interactive activities with them.

On the other hand, for pupils who are of higher ability, we can try to challenge them by giving them more challenging work. However, we should also take note that in every class, there will always be pupils with different levels of ability. So when doing group work for example, we should try to form groups that consist of pupils were differing abilities, so that the higher ability ones can help those with lower ability.

We should also constantly encourage the pupils to participate in class, and let them know that it's more important to try and get it wrong, then know the answer but not be willing to provide it. So even if the pupil gave an incorrect answer, we should still encourage them to try again.

I rhink I'm ok with pupil management and encouraging them to participate, but I'll probably need to work a little on my teaching, and also how to tailor my lesson according to the pupils' levels of ability.
